Face to face lecture #3:"Impacts of climate change on forests"

The lecture will be held on 16th October 2019 from 15:15 to 16:45 at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague (Kamýcká 129, 165 21 Praha 6 - Suchdol) in room L125. The lecture is free and will be in English.

Lecturer: Dr. Miloš Rydval

Recent anthropogenic climate change has had a broad range of direct and indirect impacts on global climatic and environmental conditions, including changing hydroclimatic and temperature patterns, frequency and intensity of windstorms and other extreme weather events. These changes to the global climate system, which are predicted to further alter climate dynamics and large-scale weather patterns, are in turn likely to affect tree growth and the climatic sensitivity of forest stands, as well as their overall health and vitality. While forests may exhibit a degree of resilience to such changes, the functions and services that they provide, including their role in the carbon cycle and ability to help mitigate the impacts of climate change, may be adversely impacted. Such factors are likely to influence future patterns of tree growth, species distribution and composition, and their susceptibility to climatic and non-climatic stressors such as insect and pathogen outbreaks.

The lecture is carrying out within the project "Future Environmentalists - Linking EU Natural Capital Management to Field Research". The project is supported by the Erasmus+ Program of the European Commission, Key Action 2: Strategic Partnership by means of Activity Agreement № CSP 2018-1-BG01-KA203-047962.
